The last few years have seen marketing cycles for video games get truncated. We can often be in the year of a major game’s release and not even have it be officially announced until just a few months ahead of launch. In other cases, meanwhile, when games do get announced or officially acknowledged years ahead of launch, that tends to be more of a formality than an actual, full-blown reveal. Now firmly into 2025, looking ahead, we can see a good number of announcements of both kinds dotting the entire year- games where the expectation of an announcement is driven by informed speculation, patterns, and precedents, as well as those that have been confirmed to have been in development for a while now, and which we might finally see full reveals for.
RESIDENT EVIL 9
It’s been a couple of years now since the last Resident Evil release, and close to twice as long since the last mainline numbered instalment, Village, which means Resident Evil 9 can’t be too far away now. Capcom officially acknowledged last year that the series’ next main game was in the works, and that RE7 director Koshi Nakanishi was leading up the project again. We wouldn’t be surprised to see an official announcement later in the year ahead of a release some months afterward (perhaps in early 2026).
