The gorgeous visuals of Dragon’s Lair only slightly soften the impact of the many, many deaths to come your way. It all boils down to how the game is designed – if you miss a button prompt, you’re dead more often than not, even from the beginning. This worked out phenomenally well in arcades since more deaths meant more quarters. Make no mistake, in terms of audio-visual design, Dragon’s Lair is an important piece of gaming history. It’s just a bloody terror to play blind.
