Amnesia the Dark Descent

Amnesia is a game that perfectly utilizes atmosphere. It creates a sense of tension and fear without the use of jump scares or other cheap methods of scaring the player. Because the mood is so thick, when the game does pull out a jump scare it is incredibly effective. As you journey through the mysterious castle, a strange monster waddles out of the darkness. A large red tongue hanging out of its gaping mouth, it rushes towards you, lurching out of the corners of the castle.
