The early to mid 2000s saw developers throughout the industry looking to replicate the success of Grand Theft Auto 3, which meant an abundance of GTA clones. The Getaway is easily one of the most underrated games in that group. It had its fair share of issues, for which it received lukewarm praise from most critics, and that, combined with the overabundance of similar games on the market meant that The Getaway got lost in the crowd.
