Mr. Needlemouse
Before Sonic was even named Sonic, designer Naoto Ohshima used the name “Mr. Needlemouse” for several of his prototypes. Needlemouse is actually the literal Japanese translation of “Hedgehog” so this came out as “Mr. Hedgehog”. Sega would reuse the term when it codenamed Sonic the Hedgehog 4 as Project Needlemouse. Given how Sonic 4 turned out, we’re kind of happy they never went back to it afterwards.
