Crash Bandicoot is a game that you can’t help but associate with the PS1, but the iconic bandicoot wasn’t always going to be a bandicoot. During early development, Naughty Dog had narrowed down the species of their protagonist to a selection of three choices- wombat, bandicoot, and potoroo. Crash Bandicoot, then, was initially internally called Willie the Wombat (and we’re all glad that’s not the name they ultimate settled on).
