Nathan Hale was infected with the Chimera Virus, which gave him a strong connection to the skeletal aliens that no one else had, but also meant that he only had limited time. At the end of the game, after destroying a large portion of the Chimera fleet over the Gulf of Mexico, the virus begins to truly take over Hale. Capelli – Hale’s fellow soldier – reluctantly kills Hale, knowing that he is no longer the hero of humanity.
