GOD OF WAR: GHOST OF SPARTA
Given the tone of this entire feature, it’s only fitting that our final entry should be yet another handheld spinoff of a major series not developed by the series’ main developers. Really, both Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta deserve much more praise and recognition than they deserve- but let’s stick with Ghost of Sparta here and ignore Chains of Olympus like a bunch of hypocrites. When it comes to Ghost of Sparta, the game cannot be praised enough. It looks amazing, it has a surprisingly important and excellent story, and it plays host to some of the most memorable and thrilling moments in the entire series. It might not be as startlingly ambitious as God of War 3, or as resoundingly polished as God of War (2018), but it’s still one of the best games in a series full of excellent games.
