Illusory Walls

Illusory walls can get in the way sometimes, but more often than not they’re there for a reason. If you were to remove invisible walls from a certain game, there would be nothing to stop you walking out of the level and into a bottomless pit. There wouldn’t be anything guiding you where to go. A good developer should be able to guide the player without them, but sometimes illusory walls are better than endless walking around levels trying to figure out where to go, right? One of the franchises that does this right is the Souls series where behind an illusory walls are hidden ways for secret areas, bosses and rare items.
