Some Games Don’t Need To Be Open World To Begin With Due To Narrative Issues
Some games focus on story much more than others but making these titles open world often distracts from the story. Mafia 3 has a fantastic narrative but its open world leaves the pacing up to the player, sometimes diminishing the emotional resonance of some story beats. Making Mafia a more linear experience might have made it a better experience but instead, we were treated to a rather lackluster open world with a ton of compulsory missions thrown in.
