The game came under a lot of flak from the sudden gameplay departure from the series. Many hard-core fans were outraged and feared that the series is moving in a mainstream direction, abandoning the distinctiveness of the franchise for a more popular and familiar type of gameplay. Some controversy also regarded the kind of “military” feel of the game that the developers were putting in the game, with special operations units being dropped into the action, helicopters, radios etc. Despite Capcom claiming that there was nothing to fear, the final quality of the game spoke for itself, resulting in one of the most disappointing Resident Evil games of all time.
