You would look at something that came from the creator of Persona and immediately think of intrigue, demons and a hint of the paranormal. Which is sort of what Catherine was about (we think), but the initial reveals didn’t make any of that obvious. The levels of anime eroticism on display were shockingly high. Then again, considering what usually passes for anime these days, it’s not like Catherine was exceptionally controversial. But just the right amount, for sure.
