50% own Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and 20% own Splatoon 2.
Nintendo announced today that the Nintendo Switch, their newest handheld-console hybrid console, has now become the fastest selling home console of all time in the United States, which is excellent news- but the success isn’t just limited to the hardware front, either.
Software sales of the Nintendo Switch have also seen insane attach rates in the United States- the crown jewel here is Super Mario Odyssey, which is owned by literally 60% of all Switch owners in the country (translating to nearly 3 million units in sales in the US alone); Breath of the Wild isn’t too far behind, with 55% of Switch owners owning it (coming to about 2.8 million units in the US alone). Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is at 50% (so about 2.5 million units), while Splatoon 2 is at 20% (about 1 million).
That’s an insane attach rate for software, and points to just how vibrant an ecosystem the Switch really is for software sales. Third parties would do well to take it more seriously going forward…
