Next-gen is on the horizon and plenty of publishers have revealed new technologies which are not only setting a bar with regards to the visuals they can push but also in the field of realistic facial animations. These things are incredibly ambitious and we probably won’t see them implemented in games any time soon but considering game developers have pulled off mighty fascinating things on consoles with 512MB RAM, one should not write them off.

1. Quantic Dream
If the motion capture of Heavy Rain was anything to go by, then one could expect bigger things from Quantic Dream. Their’s PS4 demonstration was truly bewildering with the old man displaying several human emotions. David Cage mentioned that the character's head was filled with so many polygons that it’s truly a tremendous leap over anything they have done before. As we all know they are working on a PS4 game if the recent rumors are to be believed. So one can expect Quantic Dream to churn out even a better facial capture performance.
