9 Detective Games That Made You Pull Your Hair Out

2. Phoenix Wright

Phoenix Wright, like all good adventure games, is full of twists, turns and bizarre comedy. When you’re outside the courtroom sections though, the game bears all the hallmarks of an annoying point and click title. Tapping around the crime scene aimlessly, hoping that you’ll stumble upon the pixel sized bit of evidence you need was an intensely frustrating experience, if only because the court scenes were so damn entertaining.

1. Discworld Noir

Wise cracks, a chiseled jaw and a trench coat. What more does this guy need?

“What do you know about a woman named Carlotta?” Discworld Noir managed to playfully merge the Discworld with, you guessed it, the conventions of the Film Noir genre. It was thus that Luton’s PI antics gave us love, laughter and a crazy werewolf transformation: Everything you need to make a great detective story. It was also dark, very dark; and not in the thematic sense of the word. For weeks I was stuck on one puzzle that required an item hidden in a cloak of darkness. It’s because of this that I now habitually turn the brightness up on every game I play. Regardless, that bloody letter had me crawling up the walls for far too long.
