The only thing worse than not getting a sequel to an awesome game, is not getting a sequel to an awesome game that ended on a cliffhanger. Shenmue 3 defines this paradigm, signalling the end of the incredibly visionary Shenmue series at the same time as leaving the continued adventures of Ryo Hazuki surrounded in ambiguity. Though they were both critically successful, proving to be cult hits, the two Shenmue titles were never able to recover their ambitious budgets. If only Sega would see the evolution of the industry as a worthy cause for giving Shenmue 3 another chance.
