That Kojima, always tipping convention on its head. It's easy to argue that games are a form of power fantasy, with the Stealth genre particularly granting the player powers of espionage and reconnaissance that empower them over their adversaries. Kojima's legendary Metal Gear Solid breaks from this when Meryl is shot by Sniper Wolf. Unable to save her or take out the sniper, Snake is forced to abandon her in search of a weapon with appropriate range. It was a heart shattering moment and really puts the whole idea of “heroism” into question.
