Next-gen console!

Welcome to another round-up of next-gen news and rumours for this week. It has been slightly eventful because of a massive Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes info blowout.

The PS4, Xbox 720 and Wii U are next-gen consoles but instead of waiting for them to deliver the goods, we saw this week how a next-gen PC can blow everything away. But here are all the news and rumours that the internet was abuzz with this week.

Big news this week as EA president Frank Gibeau has confirmed that the PS4 and Xbox 720 will be released within a year’s time.

“The new hardware is going to be coming out in about a year’s time, so we’re right around this period in time when the market’s going to slow down and then you have a new game changer coming with all new technology, all new hardware, and another growth period,” he told Bloomberg.

Wii U release date rumour!

“There has been rumors going on about the official release date of Wii U release, which was rumored to be November 18. This date was leaked by game accessory maker PDP at the GameStop Manager conference,” wrote Thedroidguy.

Eurogamer goes under cover and exposes the Wii U specs.

“The Wii U’s IBM-made CPU is made up of three Power PC cores. We’ve been unable to ascertain the clock speed of the CPU (more on this later), but we know out of order execution is supported. 1GB of RAM is available to games. The Wii U’s graphics processing unit is a custom AMD 7 series GPU.

“Clock speed and pipelines were not disclosed, but we do know it supports DirectX 10 and shader 4 type features. We also know that eDRAM is embedded in the GPU custom chip in a similar way to the Wii,” they wrote.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes shakes the industry.

“Kojima had earlier mentioned that a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will be released at PAX 2012 panel, and here it is. It looks stunning. The game was announced 2 days ago in Japan at a special event hosted by Konami and Kojima Productions,” we reported.
