This news shouldn’t be surprising to many, as the Wii U is confirmed to be region locked. Most Nintendo devices have been region locked so while this is a disappointing news to many who rely on imports for specific games, this news makes it certain that waiting is a trait that must be learned.
Famitsu broke this news and this is what they said, translated via GAF member Cheesemeister. “What can be played on the Wii U is restricted by a region-lock feature; software not sold in the same region cannot be played.”
The 3DS is also region locked and while people would have wanted it to be like the PS3, good things come at a price. That and there are some regional issues which needs to be bypassed so hence the lock.
The Wii U comes out on December 30 in the EU and where I live, i.e., PAL territories, Nintendo doesn’t even officially have a presence. Yay!
