Medal of Honor: Warfighter reviews start rolling in- universal panning

Worse than you could imagine

Medal of Honor: Warfighter has started hitting the shelves in the market, and its reviews have started coming in. For those of you who were expecting something- anything- positive out of this game, we have some bad news for you. The reviews have been very negative for Warfighter- not even mixed.

Sure, some of us suspected it may not be the best shooter around, but this is actually a little shocking.

Scores are below:

Vandal Online- 7.4/10
Good, but still far from what EA is attempting to achieve. It will be enough for those looking for their annual war-themed FPS, but its gameplay needs to reach the high levels seen in its audio and visual aspects.

GameStar- 7.3/10
Warfighter is well-made, has been set elaborately staged and looks good enough to eat in places. However, I constantly feel we have been through the whole spectacle in three dozen other shooters.

Eurogamer Germany- 7/10
By no means does Warfighter reinvent the wheel, but at the same time it doesn’t dent it in any way, either. And while it’s certainly not for the war-weary, most shooter fans will find a lot of solid entertainment in the well-paced, good-looking campaign and the all right, if a bit standard multiplayer modes.

GamingTrend- 7/10
Medal of Honor’s reboot in 2010 was high speed, low drag, but this year’s title just feels like a rush job – a little 6P (Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance) could have gone a long way.

4Players.de- 6.9/10
If you dissect Warfighter, every little aspect is better than in its predecessor, which in the end only means minimal progress. As a whole it is nothing more than an average shooter that has problems in leaving its mark.

InsideGamer.nl- 6.5/10
Medal of Honor: Warfighter doesn’t live up to its expectations. The single player features six hours of shooting dumb and scripted enemies. Only the chase through Dubai will linger in your mind after you finish the game. The multiplayer has improved thanks to the addition of fire teams, but the indestructibility of environments and a boring unlock system make sure the multiplayer won’t rob you of your night’s rest.

GamesRadar- 6/10
And that’s really the story of Medal of Honor: Warfighter: It’s a title that’s merely decent while it attempts to compete with two of the most popular and well-executed shooter franchises in modern gaming.

OPM UK- 6/10
Assuming you can patch it and it works, what you’ve got here is a basic shooter that, when it remembers what it is, can be fun, and when it forgets, goes mad.

PSX Extreme- 6/10
The campaign is just a depressing mix of missed opportunities and one firefight that feels exactly like the one before it. The AI is erratic, the story isn’t well presented, and the even the overall design doesn’t feel inspired. The general control is reliable and responsive, some parts are quite satisfying, and the multiplayer really is entertaining for long periods of time.

Cheat Code Central- 5.4/10
While there’s enjoyment to be had here, it is fleeting and often devolves rapidly into frustration and boredom. I feel bad saying that, because the folks at Danger Close seemed intensely passionate about their work and there’s simply so much potential in here, but it clearly needed more time if it was to develop into anything truly unique and compelling.

Game Revolution- 5/10
Warfighter isn’t a total failure, but it’s certainly not up to the standards of the international Tier 1 Operators it clings to.

G4 TV- 5/10
The biggest disappointment is that the most cohesive and entertaining portion of the campaign isn’t experienced until the last three chapters. In a game that spans 13 chapters, the “just wait, it gets better” excuse just doesn’t cut it. It’s also worth mentioning that an earlier chapter is designed to take less than a minute to beat.

Game Informer- 5/10
The uninspired single-player campaign, uneven multiplayer execution, and rampant presence of glitches undermine Medal of Honor: Warfighter’s efforts to join the Tier 1 of military shooters.

OXM- 5/10
The real threat to Warfighter’s longevity is how its multiplayer maps feel like patchworks of arbitrary buildings and debris instead of bona fide real-world strongholds. Without a palpable sense of place, these battlegrounds never give you enough reason to choose this particular universe of gunmetal and grit over any other.

Gamereactor Sweden- 5/10
Warfighter has a really rough and unfinished feel to it, and it doesn’t help that it lacks anything original or something that’s better than what the competitors offer. Medal of Honor: Warfighter is just very mediocre in the end – save your hard earned money for something better.

Gameblog.fr- 5/10
Excessively propagandist and clearly not on par with this packed holidays season, Warfighter’s solo lacks the fun it would require for accepting its over-the-top military apology and super-biased views of the world, despite some really nice initiatives like the vehicle sequences. Multiplayer-wise, it’s clearly improved with a real class-based formula and duo gameplay tactics, but is that enough with what’s coming? We don’t think so.

Destructoid- 5/10
Charmless, cynical, and uninspired, Warfighter encapsulates everything wrong with the annual big budget shooter industry. It’s really not an awful game, it’s just insipid and shallow, a title that exists solely to exist, and squeeze whatever profit remains to be had from serving the same flavorless porridge to the same unadventurous customers.

Eurogamer- 5/10
There’s been a backlash brewing for some time against the bombastic direction military shooters have taken, but it would be wrong to assume that Medal of Honor: Warfighter is simply the game unlucky enough to bear its brunt. The truth is far simpler and more depressing: it’s just not that good.

VideoGamer- 5/10
This is a bland, buggy and often boring title, one that belies the intentions of its developers and leaves the much-maligned modern shooter looking worse as a result.

Polygon- 4.5/10
Medal of Honor Warfighter fails in almost every regard. Warfighter’s campaign is a jumble of flashy parts that Danger Close unsuccessfully tries to glue together, and the solid foundation of its multiplayer is buried under a broken interface, small maps and poor interface design.

Metro GameCentral- 4/10
Depressingly banal in every way, it’s not impossible to be entertained by Warfighter but it is impossible to be surprised by it.

Metacritic:
Xbox 360- 49 (with 10 reviews)
PS3- 55 (with 7 reviews)
PC- 63 (with 5 reviews)
