Remember GameFAQs? Of course, you do, you probably went their to get a walkthrough or two before YouTube was popular. It didn’t really have any competition for a decade now but it does. CBS Interactive who owns both Gamespot and GameFAQs should be very worried.
Valve has announced that it will take on GameFAQs, okay not really, but have announced their own service which allows users to make guides on Steam.
Here’s what they said in a statement (via Eurogamer):
“You’ve probably got some favourite games that you play a lot and know pretty well. Or maybe you’ve mastered playing as a certain class or character in Team Fortress 2 or Call of Duty. Or maybe you’re just really good at finding all the hidden secrets in the latest Elder Scrolls game.
“How do you put that knowledge to use and help fellow gamers? Create a game guide on Steam!”
Steam world domination? Right move I guess, because when you have 5 million concurrent users why not make them write about games and give tips to fellow Steam members as well?
