EA has put micro-transactions in its upcoming Dead Space 3, Eurogamer reports.
In Dead Space 3 you can craft your own weapon but you need certain items which you can either pick up yourself or send a service bot to collect them which presumably will take time, or pay money to EA to unlock the gun.
This is a F2P model which has infiltrated into $60 games, and I think EA have done this before with Need for Speed: Carbon, but I’m not sure.
The site spotted this during a hands-on session and the text on the screen said: “Cannot craft. Additional resources required.”
“You can buy resources with real money, but scavenger bots can also give you the currency that you can use on the marketplace,” Dead Space 3 associate producer Yara Khoury said. “So you don’t have to spend [real world] dollars.”
Whatever it is, this model shouldn’t be used in $60 games. They will purposely create games so that grinding is required and people will be frustrated and spend money on it.
