Bungie: After Halo, “Nobody Plays Shooters The Way They Used To Because Nobody Wants To”

Following the massive information blowout on upcoming online FPS Destiny, Bungie Studios co-founder Jason Jones recently spoke to Destructoid about it.

Though honestly, it boils down to what Bungie managed to change in the FPS genre with Halo. Perhaps implying another revolution with Destiny?

As Jones states, “We did a bunch of ambitious things on Halo deliberately to reach out to people. We limited players to two weapons, we gave them recharging health, we automatically saved and restored the game — almost heretical things to first-person shooters at the time.

“We made the game run without a mouse and keyboard. And now nobody plays shooters the way they used to play them before Halo ’cause nobody wants to.”

There aren’t a lot of games that will be quick to point to Halo for their current gameplay systems, but it has been a big influence on current first person shooters like Call of Duty and Killzone. Will Destiny have the same effect? Time will tell.
