Following the official announcement of Call Of Duty: Ghosts, most fans were referring to the unnamed next in line in the Call Of Duty series as Modern Warfare 4. However, a recent interview with executive producer Mark Rubin revealed, that this title wasn’t just the word on the street from fans. COD: Ghosts actually was originally intended to be a direct sequel to Modern Warfare 3.

“People felt really strongly that they liked the way you as a player can connect to the world you know day-to-day,” said Rubin. “So the idea of staying modern became a key point. Let’s not do ‘Space Guns on Jupiter.’ Let’s do real weapons that we know in a world we’re familiar with. And then it became, do we do Modern Warfare 4? And that was the game for a little while. Because we said, we’ll stay modern, we’ll do Modern Warfare 4! But then it was like, well, we kind of finished the story in Modern Warfare 3. That arc is done.”

From there the team played around with many ideas, but ultimately decided to do a reboot of sorts with Ghosts. The game takes place in the same time perioud as Modern Warfare, but starts am entirely different cannon. Rubin jokingly referred to it as the “Earth 2” of Call Of Duty, talking of the DC comic which stars superheroes as different versions of themselves.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is set to release on November 5th.
