An in-depth look at the gameplay of NBA 2K14

Publishers 2K Sports have released another video in their Developer Diary series, this time focusing on the gameplay aspect of the upcoming NBA 2K14.

NBA 2K14 will be a much faster and more fluid entry in the series. According to the developers it’s a game “by the fans for the fans.” The primary focus on the part of the developers was making sure that NBA 2K14 wasn’t just a slightly upgraded game, but a full on new entry utilizing all the capabilities of next-gen technology potential.

The quality of the AI has been drastically improved, and is noticeable in terms of the spacing between computer-controlled players when they interact in close quarters. In terms of ball mechanics, we are told that the player will truly feel that the ball is at all times vulnerable to being blocked or stolen. At any point if the ball is exposed, you will be able to knock it out of the opposing player’s hands.

In previous entries of the game, gamers had complaints about the ease with which they could just run in and dominate right up at the rim. With 2K14, the developers put a heavy focus on ensuring that end court difficulty is just as high as mid court. A large aspect of this was improving upon that game’s shot blocking system, which the developers have completely re written.

If what these devs are saying is true, we can expect the sleekest and most realistic game yet in NBA 2K14.
