New Ryse Videos Take Players To The Haunted Swamps, Rome, Britannia

Well, it looks good, but how does it play?

Ryse: Son of Rome, the Crytek developed Xbox One exclusive launch title, promises to be an interesting game once it releases, if only because of how much it seems to favor graphical style and presentation over actual gameplay and substance. We’ll know for sure once the game releases, but for now, we have these three videos to look at.

The first of these takes us to the Haunted Swamps that lie beyond the reaches of Rome, that apparently are terrorized by the so called Minotaur King; the second one shows us the game’s vision of Rome, a city of order and wealth, power and fame. The last one takes us to Britannia, the final frontier of the Roman Empire, and its capital York.

At the very least, all the videos, which are rendered in engine, look great. But then again, Crytek’s ability to make a good looking game was never once in question- it’s whether they can back up the looks with some substance that has always been under fire.
