Titanfall Will Not Be Releasing In South Africa

Poor internet performance to blame.

Titanfall

EA have announced that they will be canceling the release of the eagerly anticipated online only shooter from Respawn, Titanfall, in South Africa.

“After conducting recent online tests for Titanfall, we found that the performance rates in South Africa were not as high as we need to guarantee a great experience, so we have decided not to release Titanfall in South Africa at this time,” a statement on their official Facebook page read. “We understand this is a disappointment for local fans and will keep fans posted on any future plans regarding the release of Titanfall in South Africa.”

“Performance wasn’t as good in the area as we would like, don’t want to sell you something that isn’t great,” said Respawn founder Vince Zampella and head honcho via Twitter.

It is to be noted that this cancelation is not permanent- in fact, both EA and Respawn stressed that they would assess the situation again after the game’s launch.

It really does suck, but I guess these are the risks associated with launching an online only game. At least this one is being hosted on the considerable might of Microsoft’s Azure services, rather than EA’s own choppy servers, which… haven’t had the best recent track record handling online traffic.

Titanfall launches on Xbox One and PC on March 11, with an Xbox 360 release to follow shortly.
