That Ubisoft’s games are mammoth undertakings, with multiple development studios around the world working on compartmentalized portions of the game, is very well known (indeed, the credits list for Assassin’s Creed III ran for over fifteen minutes). Therefore, the fact that one of their upcoming big games has just got a new development studio allocated to something ridiculously niche isn’t news in and of itself- it should be expected.

But, Ubisoft has confirmed that Red Storm Studios, best known for their work on the Ghost Recon games, has joined development of The Division to work on its weapons.

“We know that that we can build absolutely the most authentic piece of equipment, right down to the millimeter,” said Red Storm producer Tony Sturtzel. “And the guys who are coming in from the gameplay side maybe want to push the envelope a bit, which is a great jumping off point to push the collaboration, because we have to get together regularly and talk about it from both sides.”

The Division is due for a 2015 launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
