Yoshida Explains Why PS4 Still Doesn’t Have Suspend/Resume

It's being worked on by the same team as The Last Guardian.

One of the features that was promised for the PlayStation 4 before launch was the Suspend/Resume function, that would let users pick up their game from exactly where they left if off, even days later. The feature was subsequently delayed, and, eight months later, is still not available on the console, with no projected date as to when it will be finally available either.

Yoshida explained why this is so in a recent interview.

“The development team that handles the system software is the most disappointed by the fact that it hasn’t been implemented yet. And so, we keep developing it doing our best. It’s a fact that we haven’t yet done what we hoped to achieve, but continue to develop whilst thinking “We can do this”. Even if we’re not yet able to announce when it’ll be released.

“We have a list of the features in development and the priorities we aim to achieve with each step of the development process, and so we will continue to gradually offer software updates as soon as we can.”

For context, Xbox One has had a suspend/resume feature since launch, and even Nintendo managed to get a somewhat but not exactly similar feature, Quick Launch, to the Wii U, when they promised they would with the newest Wii U firmware update. Sony is lagging behind here.
