Four New Mario Kart 8 Cups May Have Been Leaked

Mario Kart 8 was a pretty amazing game, back when it released on the Wii U at the end of May. It was, in our opinion, ‘the purest game Nintendo has made in over a decade.’ It is also the Wii U’s best hope at sustaining a somewhat respectable pace of sales yet, so it makes sense that Nintendo wants to keep it alive like it has no other game in the franchise, or indeed, its history before. And yep, it seems like four new cups may have been found within the code of the game. Four new cups, that will probably be released as DLC.

How do we know that? Because the game files for these cup are, in fact, called ym_CupIconDLC_00_130x130^h.bflim.” Which is pretty helpful.

Another thing? We even know the icons that will be associated with these cups, and we’ve helpfully posted them for you up above.

What will these cups be? Are they Battle Mode arenas (which were missing from the vanilla game)? Are they remastered tracks? All new ones? We won’t know till Nintendo releases or at least announces them officially.

This isn’t the first instance of post launch support for Mario Kart 8 either. Earlier this month, Nintendo announced a patch and free DLC coming for the game by the end of August, which adds some requested features, and three new Mercedes-Benz DLC cars. Yeah man, don’t ask me.
