The Sims 4’s PC Requirements Are Laughable

Your grandma's old Commodore should be able to run it.

The more we hear about The Sims 4, the less appealing it gets. The fourth entry in EA and Maxis’s world changing series of life simulation games promises to be a complete step back and degradation of everything that made The Sims games as great as they are. But let’s give it the benefit of the doubt, and play it before we judge it, right?

Well, if you want to play it, you won’t need the most powerful rig in the world or anything. The official system requirements for the game were just released, and they’re low enough that practically any computer that’s not from the Windows XP era could run the game.

The minimum system requirements for the game are:

  • OS: Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1), Windows 8, or Windows 8.1
  • PROCESSOR: 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core 4000+ or equivalent (For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 or equivalent) MEMORY: At least 2 GB RAM
  • HARD DRIVE: At least 9 GB of free space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games
  • MEMORY: 2GB of RAM
  • VIDEO CARD: 128 MB of Video RAM and support for Pixel Shader 3.0. Supported Video Cards:  GeForce 6600 or better, ATI Radeon X1300 or better, Intel GMA X4500 or better
  • SOUND CARD: DirectX 9.0c Compatible
  • DIRECTX: DirectX 9.0c compatible

That’s actually a little sad, how low it is, but I guess at least this means everyone can play the game. Assuming they want to. So that’s good.
