Players are actively being “encouraged” to replay the cooperative missions in Assassin’s Creed: Unity due to the proposed number of ways that your objective can be completed. The cooperative missions have been built from the ground up to ensure that players can get straight into the game with minimal fluff getting in the way.

The emphasis is clearly on the gameplay as the games associate level design director, Christophe Rossignol talks about the various ways in which players can work together to earn points and complete their objective. “We still have Synchronization, but it’s based on players’ actions, so the mission doesn’t demand that you do any specific action. So, like, I’m killing someone stealthily and your co-op partner kills someone stealthily a second later, and you’ll both get rewarded with Creed Points because you have done a chain of actions together.”

Players are rewarded with more points for making use of multiple items and skills whilst performing assassinations in a very similar way to that of Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell Blacklist. Both players are rewarded if their actions are particularly impressive. Christophe says, “I use a stun bomb on enemies and you do a double air assassination on the stunned enemies…we both get Creed Points for that because it was a cool situation and a good use of our combined skills.”

Given the number of ways the levels can be completed, replayability is a key component of their design. “We encourage players to play each mission around three times, because there are different rewards you can earn”.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity releases in November for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
