Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy Plus Coming to 3DS, Has Amiibo Functionality

Pandora's Box has been opened.

When Nintendo announced that their Amiibo line of NFC powered figurines based on all of their popular characters and franchises would be compatible with a wide variety of games (unlike, say, Skylanders or Disney Infinity figures, which work only with their own games), we didn’t realize just how far reaching their plans were. But see, apparently, Bandai Namco’s upcoming Nintendo 3DS exclusive Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy Plus will also be using Amiibos.

This, of course, makes the game special and notable for a variety of reasons- it is the first non free to play Ace Combat game in years, and it is also the first of what Nintendo has implied will be many third party games utilizing the Amiibos. In this case, Amiibos can be used to unlock special skins for jets, as well as all new crossover jets.

You can check out the trailer above to see how Amiibos work in the game for yourself.
