Origin May Have Been Hacked

It isn't confirmed yet, so don't jump the gun.

EA’s Origin service, which acts as yet another digital distribution service, client, and storefront for PC gamers, has slowly gained acceptance and goodwill over the years, after having been roundly rejected by everyone when it first came to the market.

EA’s attempt to learn from what Steam does right, one up it where it goes wrong, offer true new innovative features and added value on its own merits, and of course, to use it as a distribution platform for any games it publishes exclusively (which are often the largest games every year) is what has made it so successful now.

But now, it appears Origin may be under fire again- this time for no fault of EA’s. It appears that a lot of users are reporting changes and modifications to their accounts that they did not make or initiate, which seems to indicate some sort of mass hacking into the service.

If this is true, then the hackers remained unusually silent (hackers who interrupt gaming services usually like to gloat); nonetheless, with the PSN/XBL outages caused by Lizard Squad’s DDoS attacks still fresh in everybody’s minds right now, EA is likely going to be investigating this issue very seriously. Stay tuned.
