We haven’t had a NASCAR game for a while now, but it looks like that might be about to change. A brand new studio, DMi Games, based in North Carolina, has acquired the license to develop NASCAR games going forward, and it has confirmed that a new game based on the property is under development for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One right now.
The series has been in limbo for a while due to the complexities involving licensing, which were explained by DMi Games.
DMi Games president Ed Martin explains: “Just to give you some context, a contemporary NASCAR video game has more than 1,000 licensed and approved properties in it. That’s a lot of stakeholders and people to get organized!”
“We are already hard at work on several new games including an all-new NASCAR racing sim created by DMi for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC that we expect to release in 2016,” he explained.
So yes, you should be seeing a new NASCAR game some time next year. Hopefully it’s good.
