With The Order: 1886 having finally gone gold in January and getting ready to ship on the 20th of this month, the developers have release their latest development diary.

The new dev diary looks at how the team from Ready At Dawn brought the world of The Order: 1886 to life. Nathan Phail-Liff, the games art director and Matt Pettineo, the games lead engine and graphics programmer, talk about how difficult it was getting the game into a state that felt as though it was accomplishing their goals and how it fulfils their vision.

The video also looks at how they got the games engine up and running and how much more “alive” the game world should feel because of that. From the smoke and the wind, to the realistic looking world that The Order 1886 is set in. A particular focus of the video is the finer aspects of the games visuals that really make it stick out as a gorgeous looking game.

Andrea Pessino, chief technical officer added, “We needed an equally ambitious set of goals for the technology we were developing for our game. We set on creating everything from scratch, with the goal of realising the unrestrained vision of our artists by innovating in the areas of image fidelity, shading, illumination, volumetric effects and simulation techniques. It was a huge challenge, but at the end we succeeded in more areas than we failed, so it was all worth it.
