Project CARS Will offer Console Owners PC Like Graphical Settings To Control Their Own Experience

Project CARS is now almost out. It is almost here, and everyone is waiting to see whether the final product will deliver the kind of graphical quality that Slightly Mad Studios have been teasing for the game ever since its initial reveal.

On that note, it appears that the PC version of the game will deliver in spades. Project CARS seems to be almost comically loaded with support for all sorts of graphical effects, settings, and standards on PC, including support for up to 12K resolution. No, that’s not a typo, and your eyes didn’t deceive you, it really is support for 12K.

But first, let’s get the requirements and all out of the way:

Minimum spec:

  • CPU: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400, 3.0 GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940
  • Graphics: nVidia GTX 260, ATI Radeon HD 5770
  • Memory: 4Gb RAM, 1Gb VRAM

Recommended spec:

  • CPU: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 3700, 4.0 GHz AMD FX-8350
  • Graphics: nVidia GT600 series, AMD Radeon HD7000 series
  • Memory: 8Gb RAM, 2Gb VRAM

Surprisingly enough, right now, DirectX 12 support is not confirmed, though the studio has confirmed that it is looking into it on its website.

While the PC version is running at 12K, the console versions will have to settle for far less. Slightly Mad Studios confirmed that the PS4 version of the game will run at 1080p, while the Xbox one version will be 900p. They couldn’t clarify what the resolution of the Wii U version will be, though they promised that they will make an announcement on that soon.

The good news, however, is that the console versions all run at 60 frames per second. And that is not all, either. You can control your own experience of the game while playing on console, by getting a raft of all kinds of graphical settings. If you don’t believe me, you can check it out for yourself. These screenshots come courtesy of the console versions of the game, taken by Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry.

Project CARS launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 8; the Wii U and SteamOS versions are slated for a release later this year.
