Splatoon, Nintendo’s colorful, inventive third person shooter, is almost here, and Nintendo is putting some serious, heavy marketing muscle behind the game. In Japan, a country that has traditionally been averse to shooter games, Nintendo is doubtless hoping that Splatoon’s typically, whimsically Nintendo take on things will help see the title to a modicum of success (and that it will help the Wii U’s flagging fortunes as well).
To that end, they’ve put out some commercials for the game- you can see the first one, which is a shorter, more traditional one meant to air on Japanese TV, and the second one, which serves as a sort of introduction video to the game and its bevy of mechanics.
Splatoon launches exclusively on the Wii U on May 29. Nintendo will also be putting out a line of Amiibos alongside the game. To find out mote about whether the game lives up to its promise, check out our preview.
