So, this is interesting. GAME has confirmed that a lorry that was carrying its shipment of Splatoon Special Edition, which includes the game, but also the ultra rare Squid Amiibo (the Special Edition remains the only way to get the Amiibo in Europe) has been hit by a heist, and is now stolen. As a result, the entire supply of the Special Edition is gone.
Because of this, GAME obviously will not be able to honor any pre-orders for this version that may have been made.
“Due to these extraordinary circumstances, we will unfortunately not be getting replacements for these missing items,” GAME’s email to affected customers explained. “We have no option but to substitute the Splatoon + Squid Inkling in your order with the standard version of the game.
“You will still receive your Inkling Girl and Inkling Boy Amiibo. We will be discounting this edition by £10 from £52.99 to £42.99 to apologize for this inconvenience.”
Nintendo UK themselves released a statement, confirming the theft.
“We can confirm that the lorry transporting the Splatoon stock from Nintendo’s European warehouse to GAME UK has been stolen,” a company spokesperson explained to Eurogamer.
“Included as part of this delivery was GAME’s allocation of the Splatoon + Squid Inkling Amiibo and as a result we are unable to honour pre-orders for this item in GAME. We are working with GAME to contact those customers affected.
“Whilst these unfortunate circumstances were out of Nintendo UK and GAME’s control, we apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment that this has caused.”
I mean… why in the world would you steal the Splatoon Special Edition? I guess the Amiibo black market is really starting to get out of hand at this point. Get this problem sorted out, Nintendo. If Amiibo figures were in proper supply, I imagine events like this wouldn’t be happening much.
Meanwhile, I guess if you ordered your Special Edition from some other retailer in the UK, you should be safe.
