Nintendo Claims The Legend of Zelda Is Still Coming for Wii U

For some reason, I don't believe them.

Zelda Wii U

The Legend of Zelda was conspicuous by its absence today at Nintendo’s awful E3 event. Nintendo had, to their credit, warned us beforehand that the game would not be showcased or playable at E3 this year, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone, but for people who were hoping to see more of it (maybe to salvage that wreck of an E3 showing), it was still a disappointment nonetheless.

Common speculation dictates that the game, now indefinitely delayed, has been moved over to Nintendo’s upcoming NX console instead. It does make sense- Zelda is a full fledged AAA title that takes up a lot of resources, and would need the maximum possible sales to cover for that development. Why in the world would Nintendo keep it on a console as low selling as the Wii U, when they could just move it over to, hopefully, a new system where it can be a launch game, and help it get off the ground right from the get go?

However, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, speaking to IGN, has shot down this idea. “We’re here to talk about Star Fox but Zelda is still coming to Wii U,” Miyamoto said, “so don’t worry about that.”

Of course, there is still the possibility that it will be a Wii U/NX release, much like Twilight Princess was a Gamecube/Wii release. Still, it seems as though Wii U owners have one big game to look forward to yet.
