Shovel Knight 2

Arguably the greatest indie game ever made – and one of the best platformers of all time, regardless of their origin – Shovel Knight, will now have the chance to be exposed to an even broader audience, as it will be getting a retail release this October on 3DS, Wii U, PS4, Xbox One and PC, with the PC retail release being Europe only.

The retail version of shovel Knight will include the game, upcoming Plague of Shadows expansion, and a Challenge mode with more than 50 gauntlets for players to overcome. It will also include a full instruction manual, something that developer Yatch Club Games seems to be ridiculously proud of (as they should be!)

“No 2-page inserts here,” they boasted on their blog. “You deserve a full manual, to hold in your hot little shaking hands and pore over as you wait to get home!”

Yatch Club also confirmed that the Plague of Shadows expansion will be launching before the retail game launches, meaning we can expect it by the beginning of Fall at the latest. “This free update will definitely hit digital platforms before the boxed version. We’re in the home stretch and are polishing every detail, pixel, and potion right now.”

Yatch Club will be publishing the game for themselves at retail, something they can accomplish because of how successful the digital release was- a staggering 700,00 copies have been downloaded worldwide across all the platforms the game is on, which is amazing for any indie game that is not Minecraft.
