Nintendo: We Need To Make Wii U Owners Happy Before Releasing NX

In spite of all of Nintendo’s best efforts, the Wii U is a dismal flop- the console tanked completely losing third party support in droves, and tepid sales, which still have not beaten even Dreamcast’s lifetime sales of 10 million units sold worldwide.

We already know that Nintendo is working on a successor, called the NX, but company president Satoru Iwata thinks that even as they get ready to launch a new console and jettison the Wii U, they must focus on keeping owners of 3DS and Wii U happy, particularly the Wii U.

“The NX is new hardware, and will start from zero,” he said to shareholders. “However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off software for previous hardware upon the release of a new machine is inefficient.”

“We will continue making 3DS and Wii U software while preparing for the NX,” he added. “We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U.

At least this ensures we will continue to get more bottom rung support for the Wii U, of the kind that was on display at E3 this year, for a whole another year, I guess.
