Game Freak as a developer is known primarily for Pokemon- in fact, so strong is their association with that brand that many wrongly assume them to be one of Nintendo’s many first party studios. But Game Freak is an independent software house, just one that largely sticks with Nintendo.
Well, it’s decided to break off of Nintendo for a while, and its newest game is Tembo The Badass Elephant. Yes, that’s its name. It’s a sidescrolling 2D platformer that looks to channel the spirit of classic 16 bit platformers such as Donkey Kong Country and Sonic the Hedgehog. Oh, and it is being published by Sega. And did I mention that while it is coming to a lot of platforms, it is not coming to a Nintendo one?
That’s right, Tembo the Badass Elephant will launch digitally on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on July 21. It’s gonna be just $15, which means there’s no harm in seeing what happens when a developer most known for creating one of the biggest brands in media history decides to do something different.
