Among the most anticipated games on the PlayStation 4 are Square Enix’s remake of their seminal classic, Final Fantasy 7, and Atlus’ long awaited follow up to their Persona franchise, Persona 5. The release date of latter is still a matter of speculation, while the latter has been, multiple times, confirmed for a 2015 release, at least in Japan and North America. But a new ad for PlayStation in leading European games magazine EDGE says that both games will hit Europe at least in 2016.
While the news will be good for fans of Final Fantasy – even the most optimistic speculation for the Final Fantasy 7 remake pegged it for a 2017 release, given how packed Square’s schedule is with Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 15 – fans of Persona will undoubtedly be disappointed. Persona 5 has repeatedly been confirmed for 2015, and it appears as though European fans, at least, have a longer wait ahead of them; it is also possible the game has suffered another delay, and no one will be getting it before 2016, which would seriously suck.
Of course, the accuracy of this advertisement is dubious- for instance, No Man’s Sky is definitely confirmed for this year, but the ad lists it as TBA. It is entirely possible that the ad was made just to showcase the diverse lineup that the PlayStation 4 will be getting, and the dates aren’t necessarily set in stone.
We’ll keep you posted.
