Destiny Servers Going Offline For About Six Hours On September 3

Could be maintenance for the Taken King or could just be routine maintenance.

Destiny servers are going to be offline for quite a while on Thursday as Bungie has scheduled some serious maintenance for those servers. It seems likely that the company is working hard to make sure that everything goes smoothly when The Taken King launches later this month. For those who were planning on getting some big Destiny play time in on Thursday, September 3 you better change your plans as the maintenance will run through the middle of the day.

According to Bungie, the servers will go offline at 8am Pacific time and come back up around 2pm. Those who are signed in at the time that the servers go down should get a notice right before the switch is flipped. Sign in services as well as some companion apps will likely see some issues during the period of time when the maintenance is going on.

Bungie hasn’t actually said the maintenance has to do with the launch of the Taken King. It’s possible this particular work on the servers might have been going on even if the company wasn’t planning on launching some big time content in a couple of weeks. Certainly there are going to be some people who are a bit annoyed that the firm chose the six-hour window though Bungie would likely respond that they picked it because it is the time of day when most people are at work. Destiny’s The Taken King launches on September 15, 2015.
