One of the big disappointments from Nintendo’s E3 this last June (and there were many) was the absence of a real, true Wii U Animal Crossing game. Instead we got Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, which is what appears to be an Amiibo powered Mario Party knock-off- in other words, a cynical cash in of the worst kind.

That said, if you have been waiting to understand what the game actually is, so you may be able to judge it better, well, you’re finally in luck. Sort of. Nintendo released a new trailer showcasing just what the game is about, and how it is played. The bad news? The trailer is is Japanese.

Happily, there doesn’t seem to be much here that is hard to understand. It seems to be your standard party game, with oodles of flair and the trademark Animal Crossing charm, and heavily integrated with the Animal Crossing Amiibo line. Whether or not it takes off like Mario Party, especially given the barrier of entry, remains to be seen.

Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival launches exclusively on Wii U later this year.
