Rainbow Six Siege May Be Pushing Players Towards Microtransactions After All

How disingenuous.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege

Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege may, contrary to our earlier impressions, be pushing players towards microtransactions thanks to the inherent game design. Apparently, the DLC operators for the game will take up to 25 hours to unlock- each. There are eight of them, so players would end up grinding a lot of time to unlock them all.

Or they could just pay £3.99 and get them right away.

“The data we have suggests that the average FPS player spends 8-10 hours a week playing their favorite FPS (also in-line with our observation during the closed beta), so it should only take between two to three weeks maximum to unlock an operator,” Ubisoft said, explaining the unlock requirements. “With about three months between each Season of content, we hope players with regular game time won’t have trouble saving up enough Renown to unlock both new operators upon their release.”

At the very least, Ubisoft is confirming that the Operators that come with the base game can be unlocked faster than the ones that will come in post launch support, though of course, 19 hours is less than 25 hours, but it’s still unrealistic. Until they give me specific numbers, I will continue to be skeptical.
