More and more reports seem to be indicating that not only will there not be an Assassin’s Creed this year, but there will be a Watch Dogs game to replace it in the release calendar. Rumors about no Assassin’s Creed in 2016 started out in a rather dubious way but now we even supposedly have a name for the game that will be coming out in 2017. Ubisoft still needs another big name title to release this year and Kotaku is being told by people close to the situation that Watch Dogs 2 is the game that will take its place. The game will reportedly take place in San Francisco.
Just how much excitement this news is going to generate in the video game world is anyone’s guess. The original Watch Dogs wasn’t a particularly bad game, but its anti-hero wasn’t exactly what people were looking for and it was a game that seemed to be just a little too much like Grand Theft Auto 5, with a little bit of hacking added in. Having said that, there hasn’t been a great deal of demand for a sequel. It appears Ubisoft is going to hope that there will be some interest if the game gets made, according to recent rumors.
This is hardly the first time there has been talk about Watch Dogs 2 being made. The last time we heard any solid talk about this game was way back in April of 2015. Since then Ubisoft has laid low, but it seems as if the company might be gearing up to announce the title. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if Watch Dogs 2 is truly on the way this year.
