Mirror's Edge Catalyst_02

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is now out- it is a game that shouldn’t exist, but against all odds, here we are. It’s a game that fans of the original have longed for wistfully for a while now- and now it’s real, and they can play it. But if they happen to be playing it on the PC, they may run into some problems.

Not a whole lot of them- surprisingly, for a DICE release, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst launched with very few issues and bugs. But there still are a couple of problems that are big enough that they can detract from your enjoyment of the game. If you happen to run into those, this guide should hep. Here, we list some of the biggest problems that players of Mirrors Edge Catalyst are running into, and suggested fixes for them.

But first, the recommended system specs:

Minimum

  • OS: Windows 7 64-Bit (use the latest Service Pack)
  • CPU: Intel i3-3250 / AMD FX-6350. (Note: Mirror’s Edge Catalyst requires at least 4 logical cores to run.)
  • RAM: 6 GB
  • HARD DRIVE: At least 25 GB of free space
  • VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti 2GB or better / AMD Radeon™ R9 270x or better
  • INPUT: Keyboard and mouse, dual analog controller

Recommended

  • OS: Windows 10 64-Bit (use the latest Service Pack)
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3770 at 3.4 GHz / AMD FX-8350 at 4.0 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • HARD DRIVE: At least 25 GB of free space
  • VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB or better / AMD Radeon R9 280x 3GB or better
  • INPUT: Keyboard and mouse, dual analog controller

Please be advised that the following methods are to be used at the sole discretion of the system owner. GamingBolt or its staff members take no responsibility for problems that may arise or issues that may occur from trying the below. Always remember that official support is always the best support.

DESYNCED AUDIO

This is a problem that players of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst have been reporting since before the game’s launch- and unfortunately, according to DICE, the issue has no real fix right now, and they are working on a patch. That said, some users have reported that the following workarounds have alleviated the problem for them, so maybe give these a try:

  • Turn on Adaptive V-sync in your Nvidia Control Panel specifically for this game
  • Kill any background processes you may be running, such as anti-viruses or MSI Afterburner
  • Clear your RAM cache

GAME CRASH/APPCRASH/GAME NOT RESPONDING/BLACK SCREEN

If you are running into this error, you can try the following fixes:

  • Update your drivers for your GPU
  • Disable Nvidia PhysX
  • You may be running into DLL errors- download the missing DLLs and paste them in the game directory.
  • Try running a fresh install of DirectX
  • Run the game in Windowed mode
  • Play in Offline mode on Origin
  • Uninstall and reinstall Origin
  • Clean your registry by downloading CCleaner

GAMEPLAY ISSUES

Gameplay issues in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst can be varied, including, but not being limited to:

  • You being stuck in an area of the game with no way out
  • The sound in the game mysteriously and randomly cutting off (mostly right after a death)
  • Inability to find key in game items

If you run into any of these, simply exit the game and restart- this resolves most of the gameplay issues you may run into.

IMPROPER TEXT

Sometimes, the text in the PC version can render wrong: mostly, this happens when the text displayed is the name of the file that has the text the game should be displaying, rather than the text within the file itself. If this happens with you, uninstall and reinstall Origin.

LOW FPS AND STUTTERING

  • As always, make sure you have the latest drivers
  • SLI and Crossfire is officially supported, but apparently leads to some major performance drops. You might want to try disabling those and see if it leads to better performance
  • The game is a memory hog, and has a recommended memory requirement of 6GB. A lot of the stuttering can be explained away by memory leaks, especially on systems with low memory. You can attempt to fix this problem by allocating higher virtual memory for yourself.Right click  > Properties > AdvancedSystemSettings > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Change Virtual Memory. Set page file for C drive to be anything high (say 5GB)- this may fix the problem at least to some extent
  • Disable any overclocking you may have, and set this game’s task to High Priority in the task manager

Note: Given that the wide range of PC hardware out there, the fixes mentioned here may or may not work for you. But it’s worth giving them a shot since these have worked for players who own the PC version of Overwatch.
