Battlefield 1’s Environmental Destruction Tech Showcased In New Video

Things go boom!

Battlefield 1 (3)

Environmental destructibility used to be a headline feature for DICE’s Frostbite Engine (well, at least until they retrofitted it for use in roleplaying games and soccer simulators). Suffice to say, last year’s Battlefield Hardline was a little too understated with the destructibility factor, leaving us with an experience that was disappointingly static at times, a la Call of Duty. But Battlefield 1 just seems to insist on setting itself apart. Youtuber jackfrags released a video showcasing the scope of destructibility in Battlefield 1.

We are pleased to say that Battlefield 1 is a return to the Bad Company days, at least on the destructibility front. Tanks can take out the tops of towers and ram into walls. Wooden fence posts can be sliced and diced with a melee weapon, just like the good ol’ days (an aside: You could actually cut down trees with the combat knife in the original Battlefield: Bad Company).

All in all, we’re even more excited about Battlefield 1 now, than before. What’s your take?
